When Shindaiwa designs a new product, the engineers take a different approach to the development of their commercial hand-held equipment. Instead of using the same components throughout the line like most other manufacturers might, they match components to the machine for a custom-built feeling. The Shindaiwa engineers design each product individually as is the case with the new T242 trimmer.
The new Shindaiwa T242 straight shaft trimmer is built using advanced technology, close tolerance manufacturing and unsurpassed workmanship that is the hallmark of all Shindaiwa equipment. The T242 represents the latest in 2-cycle technology, reflected by outstanding power-to-weight ratios and features that promote longer unit life, quieter operation and reduced exhaust emissions.
Some may question: "does this 23.9 cc have the power to meet the demands of day-after- day trimming work?" Some believe that the only way to a powerful engine is large displacement.
This is a misconception. Shindaiwa worked diligently with compression, port size and shape, carburetion, and a host of other factors on the T242 to obtain an impressive 1.1 hp out of this small but mighty engine.
The T242 engine features a 4-bolt chrome-plated cylinder, 2-ring piston, a heavy-duty 3-piece forged crankshaft, and fully machined crankcase halves. The carburetion system is the Walbro barrel-valve all-position carb that delivers consistent and smooth acceleration and full torque running. The heavy-duty 4-bearing gear case with helical gears also contributes to the smooth power transfer.
This model is equipped with an exceptional anti-vibration system with even the clutch drum fitted with 2 bearings resulting in a smoother operation. The solid steel mainshaft has splined ends also reducing vibration and operator fatigue.
| The T242 features Shindaiwa's famous Speed-FeedĀ® Trimmer Head which has many advantages over traditional bump-feed heads. The Speed-Feed trimmer head can actually be reloaded without dismantling and no need to press in stiff tabs or unlock mud-encased covers just to refill line. Typical time to reload line from container in to the trimmer head is 30 seconds or less. |
